We spent two days walking round Venice, following some walk leaflets, and we saw the Historic Regatta. There is so much to see and it is often difficult to take photos as alleys are narrow, and if you are by a canal – don’t step backwards!
When you come out of the Santa Lucia railway station (built on the site of the Santa Lucia Convent), this is the view:

The church of the Madonna dell’Orto dates from the mid-14th century, the façade was built in 1460–1464. The campanile has an onion dome, 1503
has a camel, and 4 turbaned figures on its side
Scuola vecchia della Misericordia, a former charity building, dates from 1310, with 1451 facade; and Church of Santa Maria della Misericordia, founded in the 10th century, the façade was restored in 1659 and 1864.

Palazzo Ducale, rebuilt 16th century in 14th century style, was the residence of the Doge of Venice, the supreme authority of the former Republic of Venice
From the bridge (above), you can see the Ponte dei Sospiri (= The Bridge of Sighs) built in 1600 over the Rio di Palazzo. It connects the interrogation rooms in the Doge’s Palace to the New Prison
