On our Tour of Scotland in 2019 we saw many bluebells and rhododendrons. The weather was mixed, but we had 5 glorious days on the coast. As well as visiting new places, we met up with and stayed with friends from the past who we don’t often see, which was lovely. We went to a variety of different places – grand houses and gardens, coast, villages and towns.
Our first stop was with a friend at Leek in Staffordshire with a visit to Chatsworth (Derbyshire),
then to Ullswater in the Lake District for a waterfall and fell walk and a night at Penrith.
We arrived in Scotland and walked from Rockcliffe to Kippford and stayed on a farm near Gatehouse of Fleet for 4 nights and visited:
Next we stayed with friends at Bridge of Weir for 4 nights and visited
then, passing Loch Lomond,
to Falkirk for 2 nights to visit
moving south we visited the mill village of New Lanark
and stayed for 4 nights at Galasheils, where we went to
Abbotsford – Sir Walter Scott’s home
Jedburgh and Floors Castle and Mertoun Gardens
Returning to England we stopped at
Bamburgh Castle and Alnwick Castle on the way to stay with friends at Newcastle for 3 nights. They took us to see:
Hadrian’s Wall with lunch at Hexham and a visit to Durham
Seaton Sluice to Whitley Bay and Newcastle and Gateshead
To return home we visited Castle Howard near York, stayed one night near Sheffield, then had a wet day at Leamington Spa, which we cut short.
A very enjoyable 3 weeks away
