27th July 2018 A visit with Stroud U3A Church History and Architecture Group
St John The Baptist church has a circular grave yard and is on a knoll with panoramic views over the River Severn
There is an iron-age hill fort nearby and there may have been a Saxon church here, but this church was built between 1215 and 1225. Over the years the church has been enlarged, altered and restored.
The tower, the pillars in the nave, two windows and this doorway are Norman
There is an old bier for transporting coffins
