It was a Norman house, changed in Elizabethan times to the shape of an E, and much of what you can visit has not been changed since the Civil War in the mid 1600s, so it is a rarity.
Chavenage has been used for filming the TV series Poldark, but we did not see Ross arrive on his horse to visit Elizabeth.
